Province of Limburg and MojoMedia: WWI storytelling

An extraordinary storytelling to remember WW 1 By the province of Limburg and MojoMedia 100 years ago, the night of the 31st of July, all Limburgers were informed that the general mobilization was declared. This was done by ringing the church bells in all the villages. When launching the campaign “Small stories in a Great War” the province of Limburg and MojoMedia ensured that all church bells in Limburg were ringing again. This guerrilla action generated a lot of press attention for this project. Limburg 1914-1918 – “Little stories in a Great War” Facebook storytelling What if Facebook already existed 100 years ago? That was the starting point of the idea we created for the WW 1 remembrance campaign for the Province of Limburg. With this in mind we created an exceptional story based on true facts told by fictitious characters on a Facebook page. Combined with unique archive material we really brought World War 1 in Limburg back to life. During a period of 3 months we highlighted stories from the 4 years of war and really got people engaged. To amplify this even more we also created fiction videos based on true stories to visualize key moments of the Facebook story. This resulted not only in more than 12.000 likes but also generated a lot of positive comments and questions. Questions that were answered using the experience of WW 1 historians. Limburg 1914-1918 – “Small stories in a Great War” short movie As the main part of this campaign we created the storytelling Facebook page “Mathilde Paukens”. On this page we told different stories as if they were happening today. We used fictitious and historical characters, true stories and a lot of archive material. To enhance this content even more we also produced fiction videos highlighting key moments of the story and by doing so we got people really engaged. This content based campaign touched people, generated great positive comments and media coverage. And most importantly got everybody involved in the War Word 1 story. And at the end of the campaign all the fiction videos from the online storytelling added with exclusive material became a short movie giving a unique insight in the daily life in Limburg during World War 1. “Small stories in a Great War” starring David Cantens, Laura Verlinden, Jelle Florizoone, Christine Verheyden, Arne Lenk, Steven Boen, Sven De Ridder, Tom de Hoog, Dries Vanhegen, Robert de la Haye and many more. When the storytelling online and by media partners ended, we invited all our followers and the public to visit our unique exhibition. Limburg 1914-1918 – video exhibition in black box giving insight in the daily life in Limburg during World War 1 As part of the World War 1 remembrance campaign we created a unique video exhibition based on true stories that happened during WW 1. Through video projection in a black box fictitious and historical characters tell a story directly to the audience. In this way people really get more insight in the 4 years of war and what it meant for Limburg. The story is also supplemented with unique archive material. By our storytelling people of Limburg were motivated to gather stories about Word War I and to cooperate to a unique art project. 44 huge helmets in concrete were made by the Province. One for each of the 44 municipalities.
