Absolute Classic Cars. 1983 Audi Coupe 5E just 53k miles, FSH - simply the best! SOLD
Delivered through VAG dealership, Derek's Service Station Ltd on the 1st March 1983, the first day for "Y" registration, to Mr G.M Hughes, this Coupe Fuel Injection '5E', remained in his sole ownership for 25 years, cherished all that time and only came to the market in 2008 due to his passing, showing just 47000 miles at that time. Supplied with her original Dealer Brochure / Price list, the original Pre-delivery mirror mounted 'Salesman Checklist' and build stickers in place, indicate this Coupe Fuel Injection was supplied with the fully factory spec'd. Sold by us previously and welcomed back as a result of the owner buying his dream, a BMW 635 CSI Manual, from us recently it's a real pleasure to have this exceptional classic in our portfolio once more. Having owned a number of classics over the years it's not often we're left in 'awe', but this Audi Coupe Fuel Injection, badged "5E" is one such car! Having only had 4 keepers since Mr Hughes, all of whom have maintained the quality and integrity of the car we can say without doubt that this example is as close to 'factory fresh' as we've ever seen! From a review of the history file, invoices going back to the supply of the first 'service kit' in June '83 at 5000 miles and with further invoices for parts / services etc from '83-'21, the presence of every MOT and Tax Disc through to date, confirming her mileage at 53287 miles it's clear this car has lead a cosseted life (garaged every night) with most of the mileage being driven in the early years and amazingly over the last 20 years, the car has averaged less than 350 miles per year! Finished in her stunning Sienna Red Metallic (she's a match for the car in the Audi 1983 sales brochure, pictured), the paintwork remains in exceptional condition. The panels are free from any dents, with gaps consistent with high Audi build quality standards and the paint work has the most sensational shine, free from any fade, with just the odd stone chip (there's even an Audi touch up in the correct LD3V paint code). All the rubbers, trims, plastics and the bumpers have resisted any bleaching too, a remarkable example in every way and with her fully refurbished 14" 'Cookie Cutter" (fitted with a brand new matched set of Yokohama 185/60/14 alloys, 600 miles old), this Coupe could easily be mistaken for a car a 10th of its age or an example fit for the Audi museum. Opening the door and the quality continues, with the first impression, smell, suggesting you're about to sit in a brand new car. The seats, with their 'tweed' material are in perfect condition. The seat bolsters remain firm and supportive with no nasty marks, tears or creases! The rest of the interior also remains in excellent condition; everything in factory fresh condition and detailed correctly, the steering wheel / gear knob / pedal rubbers having close to zero wear , the dash / sub-dial instrumentation function correctly, including the 'Shift' light as the revs rise (Yes a 'Shift' light in 1983!), the headlining is perfect as is the rear parcel shelf, she comes with a set of full set of genuine over-mats, Blaupunkt Paris stereo and on inspecting the boot area, its great to note that not only is the tool kit present, the spare wheel still wears her original Michelin tyre! but that the all important storage for the 'Tilt & Lift' sunroof is undamaged, with the original 'felt' type material in place for when you want to enjoy 'open' motoring and when supplying the car previously we went one stage further in actually making a 'pocket' for the roof panel to sit inside, protecting it further still. The level of detail extends to the engine compartment too, she's detailed perfectly. Mechanically this Coupe is a delight. The 2.2 litre, 5 cylinder fires without hesitation and settles into its characteristic smooth idle and 'warble'. Re-examing the fantastic history file we can confirm that in the last 1500 miles, she's received a major service, extending to a cambelt, waterpump replacement and in Feb '22 she received a new clutch and front wheel bearing. On stepping into the Audi and closing the door, you're immediately feeling is one of quality, the door shuts with zero effort, but has a reassuring 'thunk', the carpet has a deep/heavy pile, the seats are wonderfully supportive and all the switch gear is positioned with the drivers focus in mind. Out on the open road, the feel of quality, safety and knowing you're driving something special continues, the engine pulls cleanly through the rev range the wonderful 'off-beat' 5 cylinder is refined and full of character, but almost silent at cruising speeds, the brakes are perfect, steering nicely balanced....basically, she's just one of the cars you could drive endlessly and get out feeling fresh and unflustered, you have to drive her to know how good she is! Should Audi UK or Audi AG have this example in there showroom / museum facilities, probably! Grab her now before its too late!
