With Airbags: Three Stars Adult occupant: The driver and passenger airbags offered good protection to the head. However, the protection offered to the driver's chest was marginal and there were hazardous structures in the area of the fascia that could be impacted by an occupants knees. The seat belts in the front were fitted with pretensioners (device that takes away slack in the webbing in an early stage of the impact and improves the performance of the seat belt) which did not perform properly during the impact. FIAT will review this issue together with the seat belt manufacturer. In addition the manufacturer told LN that they will improve the knee area shortly. . Without Airbags: One Star Adult occupant: The rating for the Palio was limited to 1 star due to the unacceptably high risk of life threatening injury to the driver's head presented by the steering wheel.
