Edvard Grieg: Allegro moderato - No. 5 from Poetiske Tonebilder Op.3
This is one of a set of six pieces Grieg wrote in 1863, the year after he finished his studies at the Leipzig Conservatory. This Poetic Tone-Picture has appeared in the ABRSM Grade 6 piano syllabus. When I was a teenager I used to play from a 'Grieg Album' that contained (only) the first four pieces in the set, and it was only by trying to find the piece listed by ABRSM that I realised that there were more than four pieces. I had the other two in a different book without realising it. If you were playing this in an exam, you probably wouldn't do the repeat in the middle section, although as it is quite short you could possibly choose to - but don't take my advice on that!
