Is this the successor to Audi's V12 Le Mans winner?

Was the road going Audi R8 the true successor to Audi's Le Mans campaign in mid 2000s? Being the successor to the LMP1 R8 that won Le Mans 5 times, the road going "Le Mans Quattro concept" was expensive when new (still is to this day), and isn't something that is attainable for the masses. And yet, in the same way that the Quattro 4wd system changed rallying forever, Audi's R10 racer changed the playing field once again when it became the first diesel powered car to win at Le Mans. Following the R10's first win, all remaining LMP winners at Le Mans were powered by diesel. Unfortunately, Audi never made a "road going" successor or tribute to the R10 TDI. Or did they? As a "blue blooded" petrol lover, I have never entered the world of diesels. It usually pains me to even say the word. However, I may well be eating my words with the new car for the CARpeDM family.
