LEMMENS: École d'Orgue (1862) - 10 Prières (No. 6-10)

#organ #hauptwerk #lemmens Since 2023 marks the 200th anniversary of the belgian composer Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens, I thought it would be a great idea to record some of his pieces from the famous École d'Orgue with some of my romantic Hauptwerk samplesets. In this video you hear the latter 5 pieces and a bonus version of "10 Prières", which I played with the Sampleset Święta Lipka by @PiotrGrabowski_Organs. 10 Prières (No. 6-10): 00:00 Intro 00:20 06. Cantabile, C-Major 02:18 07. Andante, F-Major 05:32 08. Andante religioso, B-flat Major 07:30 09. Andantino religioso, D-Major 10:13 10. Grave, E-Flat Major 14:07 "Sortie"-Version of No. 10 (Score: https://imslp.org/wiki/%C3%89cole_d%27orgue_(Lemmens%2C_Jacques-Nicolas)) The composer Jacques-Nicholas Lemmens was one of the most influential organists in the early and mid 19. century. He was born in 1823 and died 1881 near Mechelen in Belgium. Lemmens studied at the brussels conservatory and later was sent to Breslau, where he was taught by Adolf-Friedrich Hesse and became familiar with the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach. He played many concerts in Belgium and France, where he came in touch with Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, and became professor at the brussels conservatory, where he taught Joseph Callaerts, Alexandre Guilmant and Charles Marie-Widor. His most famous composition for organ is the "École d'Orgue basée sur le Plain-Chant Romain", written in 1862 in two parts with pieces in every level of difficulty. Lemmens also wrote three Organ sonatas, which unfortunately aren't very well known, but beautifully crafted. The organ of St. Mary's Sanctuary in Święta Lipka, Poland, consists of 43 stops alongside 2 manuals and pedal board. The musical possibilities with this instrument are widespread: from baroque music to late romantic music.
