In the magical Smurf village, life follows its own kind and noisy rules, until Clumsy accidentally leads the evil wizard Gargamel there. Fleeing pursuit, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Grouchy, Brainy, Gutsy, and Clumsy himself pass through a magical portal into modern New York, where the enormous city seems no less dangerous to them than the enchanted forest. The little blue heroes must find their way home, hide from Gargamel and his cat Azrael, and at the same time change the lives of an ordinary couple — Patrick and Grace Winslow, who unexpectedly become their allies.
