Ultrabroadband sound control with deep-subwavelength plasmacoustic metalayers | Dr.Stanislav Sergeev

Dr. Stanislav Sergeev LTS2 Acoustic group, EPFL, Switzerland “Ultrabroadband sound control with deep-subwavelength plasmacoustic metalayers” Abstract: Controlling audible sound requires inherently broadband and subwavelength acoustic solutions, which are to date, crucially missing. In the attempt to solve this vexing issue we introduce the concept of plasmacoustic metalayers. We show that the dynamics of small layers of air plasma can be controlled to interact with sound in a broadband way and over deep-subwavelength distances, demonstrating perfect sound absorption effect, from several Hz to the kHz range. The Department of Physics and Engineering of ITMO University (Saint Petersburg, Russia) hosts online weekly seminars to discuss recent scientific achievements of researchers from all over the world with a wide audience. The topics include experimental (Optical seminar) and theoretical (Theoretical seminar) aspects of nanophotonics and acoustics (Acoustic), solid-state physics, material science, as well as design and applications of radiofrequency structures and devices (Microwave seminar). Upcoming and past events can be found at https://physics.itmo.ru/en/seminars #AcousticSeminar #ITMO #НовыйФизтехИТМО #ScientificSeminar
