After a failed operation to rescue a raccoon, eccentric pet detective Ace Ventura retreats to a Tibetan monastery, trying to find peace and forget his professional failure. But his quiet life quickly comes to an end when he is hired for an unusual case in the fictional African country of Nibia: before the wedding of representatives from two feuding tribes, a sacred white bat disappears, and without it the peace agreement may collapse.
