Dolittle (movie, 2020)
After the death of his wife, the famous Dr. John Dolittle shuts himself away in his vast estate in Victorian England and lives in near-total solitude, speaking only with animals, whose language he understands better than human conversation. His voluntary isolation comes to an end when young Queen Victoria falls gravely ill, and the palace urgently summons the only person capable of finding a rare cure. Together with timid apprentice Tommy Stubbins and an entire team of talking animals, Dolittle sets out on a dangerous journey to a mythical island where a healing tree grows, but the path to it leads through pirates, old grievances, dangers at sea, and his own fear of losing those dear to him again. This family fantasy, inspired by Hugh Lofting’s books about Doctor Dolittle, combines adventure, comedy, and a fairy-tale story about friendship, courage, and returning to life after a great loss.
