Apollo, the handsome and powerful god of music and poetry, has everything he wants - except for the one thing he can’t have. Daphne, a beautiful and free-spirited nymph, has sworn to remain a virgin and devote herself to the hunt. When Apollo sees her in the forest, he is instantly smitten and chases after her. But Daphne rejects his advances and begs her mother, the river goddess Peneus, to save her from his clutches. Peneus answers her prayer and transforms Daphne into a laurel tree, leaving Apollo with nothing but a wreath of leaves to remember her by.
