She studied in St. Petersburg, and then in Paris and Milan. In 1892 she made her debut at the Imperial Opera in St. Petersburg as Marguerite de Valois in Les Huguenots’, she remained a member there until 1912. Mikhailova toured Russia extensively; Orel, Tambov, Odessa, Moscow, Vladivostok, The Crimea, Kharkov, Kiev and various cities in Siberia..... Mikhailova appeared in Prague, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, Austria and Japan. Her last engagement was in 1914.... In subsequent years, she gave singing lessons. Her husband was Mikhail Dmitrievich Van Puteren - a hereditary nobleman and State councillor, as well as being an eminent Doctor of Medicine. He died, suddenly in in 1908 They had one child, a daughter, Olga, born in 1899. During the Great Patriotic War, Maria Alexandrovna Mikhailova was evacuated to Perm, where she died on January 18, 1943.
