Nearly five thousand years ago, the slave Teth-Adam was given the power of the ancient gods, but his rage and thirst for vengeance proved so destructive that he was imprisoned in a tomb and erased from the history of Kahndaq. In the modern world, archaeologist Adrianna Tomaz awakens him, hoping to save the country from the criminal organization Intergang, but the freed hero of the past is nothing like a traditional protector: he obeys no laws, believes in no mercy, and answers violence with a force against which armies are powerless. To stop him, the Justice Society arrives in Kahndaq — Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher — but soon all of them must realize that the true threat may be far older and more dangerous than Black Adam himself.
