Medical student Nancy arrives at a secluded Mexican beach where her mother once surfed, hoping to escape, at least for a while, from pain, exhaustion, and doubts about her own future. The sunny day, deserted shore, and perfect wave at first feel almost like a personal farewell to the past, but after an attack by a great white shark, Nancy is left wounded and cut off from land only a few hundred meters from safety. Around her are the ocean, the tide, a hungry predator, and almost no chance of help, while a small rock and an injured seagull become her only allies in the fight for her life. Jaume Collet-Serra’s tense thriller turns a simple survival situation into an elegant and brutal duel between human and nature, where the heroine’s strength is revealed not through grand heroics, but through cold calculation, pain, fear, and a stubborn will to make it out alive.
