New England Yankee Grand Slam! Striper, Fluke, Blackfish & Northeast Sculpin

https://prophecypipes.com In this video you’ll see me catch 2 Blackfish 2 different ways, Striped Bass, Fluke and more Sea Robins then I could fit into the edit. You’ll also hear my opinion on fishing restrictions getting tighter and tighter year after year. I am sick and tired of being told by NOAA that the Recreational Anglers need to change the way they fish or need to take home less fish year after year. Who do you think is the real problem? The Recreational Fisherman who goes fishing once a week and maybe gets lucky enough to catch 1 or 2 fish to take home that fit their requirements or the Commercial Fishermen who are out there every day of the week taking as much as they’re legally allowed to then having some of their fish being thrown in the garbage because it spoils in a grocery store somewhere before someone buys it? Don’t worry I’ll wait. A lot of fish are wasted on commercial markets because not all of them are sold in time. That’s not a problem for the Commercial Fishermen or most of the retailers because market prices on OUR fish is a lot higher than it should be! So what spoils is not a loss to them. It’s called Shrink. God put these creatures on this planet for us to live off not to spoil on a fish market. Trust me God’s prices are much cheaper. The fish I take home are free! Year after year fish stocks drop but the restrictions seem to get worse and worse for the Recreational Angler who is just trying to feed himself but yet the finger is always pointed at him. I’ve seen you guys fish. I love you guys but trust me. You are not as efficient as the commercial guys. Tell me why Blackfish is still even allowed to be fished commercially and why is their minimum length 15 inches and ours 16 inches? Limits are necessary because people always take more than they need. We need to change for ANYTHING to change. If you’re not going to EAT IT, don’t bring it home or mistreat it while you have it out of the water. A huge part of the problem on the Recreational side is mistreatment of fish. Accidents happen and sometimes you’ll drop a fish before you release it. That won’t always be fatal for the fish though but keeping it out of the water too long just to get a picture of it is. Also when releasing large fish of any species they normally need time to revive before you release them. All species included. The longer you let the fight go on for or the longer you keep them out of the water the more time it takes for them to revive. Catch and Release fishing is fatal more times than it is not. So you Recreational Guys are not innocent. You’re just not educated or experienced and that’s not your fault. Even still the numerical damage that the recreational fishermen causes to each fish stock is incomparable to the numbers the Commercial Guys bring in every day. The problem isn’t circle hooks. It’s poor care of your catch. NOAA will next make it illegal to remove Large Striped Bass from the water just like they did with Tarpon down south. NOAA please spend some money on educating the Recreational Fishermen. I fish piers all over the map and pedestrians always stop and ask is it legal or what are you fishing for? There’s RARELY ever a sign at a fishing pier pointing to a website or listing fishing restrictions. Large fish of all species need to be handled with care but most Recreational Anglers don’t learn that lesson until they watch the biggest catch of their life sink to the bottom after they release it from a pier, shore or docked boat. I’ve heard that there are times when Commercial Fishing will have seasons extended because the Fishermen did not meet their quotas. If they’re not meeting their quotas it’s not because they’re not fishing it’s because the fish are not there! If you went fishing at your local pier all year long and weren’t fortunate enough to land a Striped Bass within the slot size, would NOAA extend your Striper Season? No, because the Striped Bass that you take home for FREE does not in some way help them. I’d love to see things change but I highly doubt they will. People only change when they have to!
